Google issued the core update for November 2024. As per Google, the update will be here in around two weeks.
Core changes take place many times a year. Google releases core upgrades because they have the potential to significantly alter its search algorithms and infrastructure. The most selling news is about sitelinks search box removal.
Since Google first introduced the sitelinks search box in Google Search more than a decade ago, they’ve seen a decline in usage. As a consequence, beginning November 21, 2024, Google will be eliminating this visual component to assist streamline the search results.
November’s Core Updates
This core upgrade should be standard and comes a few months after Google’s August 2024 core update. Google posted on LinkedIn:
By displaying more material that people find really helpful and less stuff that seems to have been created only for search engine optimization, this change aims to further our efforts to enhance the quality of our search results.
Sitelinks Search Box
Sitelinks search box structured data may be removed from your website, but it’s not necessary. This kind of unsupported structured data won’t interfere with Search or result in problems in Search Console reports. Keep in mind that site names also utilize a version of WebSite structured data, which is still maintained, in case you want to delete the sitelinks search box structured data.
Google's position
Google announced the change and promised to provide additional information to its search status report. Google wrote:
The November 2024 core update was made available. Soon, we’ll include it on our ranking release history page and provide an update after the distribution is finished.
Prior correspondence
Although Google informed us weeks ago that an upgrade will be released shortly, websites that were adversely affected by the September 2023 helpful content change shouldn’t anticipate significant recovery. What kind of effect this November core upgrade will have is too soon to tell.
How to respond if you are struck
Google has provided guidance on things to think about if a core upgrade has previously had a negative effect on you. Google hasn’t offered any fresh guidance here, but the following is what the business has already said:
- To recuperate, there are no particular steps to follow. A poor rating may not show that there is an error with your pages.
- If core upgrade affects your site, Google has given a list of questions to think about.
Recovery
According to Google, there may be some recovery in between core upgrades, but the most significant shift would occur after another core update.
Put simply, provide material that is beneficial to readers rather than just for search engine rankings.

All search results, in all languages and nations, will be affected by this change. This won’t be shown in the Search status dashboard and has no impact on rankings or the other sitelinks visual aspect. After sitelinks search box components are no longer shown in Search, the Rich Results Test’s markup will no longer be highlighted and the Search Console rich results report will be deleted.
